Sakai Ichiji Yanagiba Knife

The yanagiba is a traditional Japanese sashimi knife suited to delicate pull-cut slicing.

This knife is single-beveled and made of hagane (high-carbon steel). It is an unused stored item, but because it was stored, it has been sharpened and serviced. It should be an easy way to enjoy sashimi from fish blocks at home. Please note there may be minor storage marks and sharpening marks.

The black area of the blade has a Black Oxide Finish.
A Black Oxide Finish forms a stable oxidized layer on the steel surface, helping reduce red rust while giving the blade a calm, dark appearance.
The rugged black blade and the polished silver edge create a strong contrast, giving the knife a bold, tool-like presence.
With continued use, the look of the black oxide area will gradually change—one of the unique charms of carbon steel knives.

It has been sharpened and is ready to use upon arrival. Please handle with care when unpacking. The price includes the sharpening service.

It features the engraving “堺一次” (Sakai Ichiji). The “堺打刃物” (Sakai Cutlery) seal sticker also remains cleanly attached.

In a sushi restaurant setting, yanagiba knives are valued for their presentation-level slices—and this style of finish adds a distinctive, traditional look while keeping the cutting edge crisp for sashimi work.
