Sakai Isshin Tobacco Knife from Sakai
The Tobacco Knife (Tabako Hōchō) traces its origins back to the Edo period, when Portuguese-introduced tobacco leaves were cut using specially crafted knives by Sakai artisans. This historical piece is considered one of the earliest forms of Sakai cutlery, making it a valuable item for collectors and admirers alike.
This knife features a single-beveled high-carbon steel blade known for its sharpness.
It is an unused item kept in storage. Due to the passage of time, the blade had dulled, but it has been professionally sharpened and maintained.
The knife will be delivered in the clean condition shown in the photos.
The blade has been sharpened, so it is ready to use immediately upon arrival. Please handle with care when unpacking. The price includes the sharpening fee.
It features the engravings "さかい" (Sakai), "登録" (Registered), and "一神" (Isshin).
This knife is not only a cutting tool but a living artifact that connects you to the origins of Japanese craftsmanship. Its unique historical value makes it an exceptional piece to own or gift.
