Yajima Kunishige Nakiri Knife

This is a nakiri knife by Yajima Kunishige. It is a hand-forged Hon-Warigomi double-bevel blade that reflects the craftsmanship of Showa-era blacksmithing. The Nashiji finish is beautifully executed, and the boundary between jigane and Hagane shows natural waves typical of hand-forged laminated steel. The spine is about 4mm thick at the heel, retaining an old-style forged texture. The jigane has a slightly rough character, which is a hallmark of the period handwork and has no negative impact on performance. The area near the edge has been polished up to a semi-mirror finish. As a double-bevel nakiri, it is very practical for all kinds of vegetable work and offers the straightforward cutting feel typical of traditional Showa hand-forged knives. The Hagane core steel combines toughness with sharpness, and its actual cutting performance is excellent. A light coat of blade oil has been applied for storage, so the mirror-polished area may appear cloudy; a quick wash with dish soap will reveal the true finish.

Please note that mirror or semi-mirror finishes are often applied only to part of the blade, not the entire surface.
We recommend checking the photos to confirm the current condition.
Because this knife is finished by hand, fine scratches or minor marks may be present.
We hope you will appreciate these details as part of its handmade character.

This knife has a double-bevel Hagane (carbon steel) blade, offering substantial thickness and a very sharp cutting edge.

It features the engraving "矢島國重" (Yajima Kunishige).

This Yajima Kunishige nakiri is ideal for enthusiasts who enjoy traditional hand-forged Japanese knives and want to experience the lively bite of a Showa-era vegetable blade with semi-mirror polish.
